Luxembourg City – what catches my eye?

Today, let me take you an a little walk through Luxembourg City. Tiny capital of my tiny country, just a tad over 100.000 inhabitants in the city.

Not many people, but great history and great views!160520-kodak-tri-x-canon-a-1-003

Houses over a hundred years old, renovated and like new, hugging the valley’s side just below the glass palaces of modern Luxembourg. But I don’t want to go on a history lesson here. I just want to take you by the hand and show you some things, great and small that catch my eye.

The city is bissected by  two small rivers that managed to cut impressive valleys over the millennia. View from the uper town to the Railway Station quarter.

Roofs below the bridge!

A so called Spanish Tower from the spanish occupation of Luxembourg from the 15th to the 18th century. Ahem…. this one is fake! Built ‘just’ a hundred years ago.

Look everywhere when you walk, detect patterns, see things! Look. Isn’t this a sun with it’s rays in the stone wall? Intentional?

Same wall, some meters down the road. Wtf does the ball do in that wall?

Look up, not only down, search for interresting things and hit the shutter!

Letterboxes…. letterboxes, I got a fine series of those. I don’t know what people do with them sometimes, but you can get really nice photos from them.

Speaking of letterboxes… how many people live here? And don’t they have a ruler? 😉160722-fomapan-400-leica-iiia-005-pano

One last photograph of an old house – in fact this is a panorama stitched from two views, upper and lower part… didn’t bring my wide angle….

All these photographs were done on my Canon A-1  with he standard 50mm f:1.8 lens on Kodak Tri-X.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. As always Frank, great photos and an insight into Luxembourg. An interesting looking city and one I will have to add to my wish list to visit. With plenty of film and an XA or two!!!
