Photography is my greatest passion… but just behind comes music. And above all if said music involves my daughter.
Sometimes I am lucky to combine both passions and have a terrific evening… and not enough film, unfortunately. So this time no silly roll-fillers.
Yesterday started the yearly ‘Fête de la Musique‘ in Luxembourg City, with lots of live bands playing different stages throughout the city. Thousands thronged the small streets of the historic city center. Food stalls, bars, and of course music were the ticket.
My daughter is the singer of a duo of Luxembourgish musicians. Together with her partner in crime Michael Galetto they are SYNTHESIS, a great Trip-Pop outfit with deep roots in 80’s electronic music, hip-hop, soul and world music.
Listen to their music HERE –>
and perhaps…. if you like it, buy the album! I personally recommend the track Nana, but that’s just me. The rest is great too and it’s not just Daddy speaking!
So I set out to capture these moments, armed with my Canon AE-1 and Ilford HP5 film, pushed to 3200 ISO for the occasion. No flash photography for me please!
I developed the film today and was really happy to see quite a number of frames that came out OK. Grainy, but full of nice contrast.
The public was great, the mood was cool, happiness was in the air (amongst other …unnameable smells). These guys listened, swayed with the rhythms….
…others of course seemed not so receptive and were more involved with those darn phones.
But for making memories, if you don’t want to bother with a big camera (and silly film), they come in handy.
The show was too short…. and, well guys, I guess ‘real’ bands have people to do this stuff afterwards…. 😉
And of course what would be such an evening in Luxembourg without the mandatory grilled sausages – Mettwurscht and Thür….. sorry, Grillwurscht. We don’t have the right to use that T-word any more. The Germans own that brand!

So if you want, head over to Synthesis on Bandcamp or Facebook!
Thanks for being here!

Club and event pictures better without flash I think, otherwise it destroys the atmosphere I think.
